Independence Day Holiday Weekend Operating Plan (July 3 – July 7, 2020)

Saturday, July 4, 2020, is Independence Day – America’s 244th birthday.  In celebration of the national holiday, The Port of Virginia announces the following operating plan:

Friday, July 3

(**Most federal and state agencies will observe the holiday on this date.)

  • Standard port operations – observing posted gate and TRS hours at all terminals and facilities
    • At 0900 hours, TRS reservations will open/be made available for Tuesday, July 7
    • After 1700 hours, TRS reservations will be UNAVAILABLE to confirm/edit until 0800 on July 5
  • All port administrative offices – OPEN
  • HARD STOP for all terminal activities at 2359 hours

 Saturday, July 4 – Independence Day

  • National holiday
  • By contract, NO WORK DAY for the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA)
  • All Port of Virginia terminals and facilities – CLOSED

 Sunday, July 5

  • All POV truck gates – CLOSED
  • Vessel and rail work resumes
  • TRS Reservations will be AVAILABLE to confirm/edit after 0800 hours on July 5

 Monday, July 6

  •  By contract, our ILA partners will observe the Independence Day holiday on July 6  
  • All POV truck gates – CLOSED
    • The Port of Virginia is providing ocean carriers an additional day of terminal free time for July 6
      • Please contact your ocean carrier directly to confirm their free time policy for containers that cannot be handled on July 6
    • TRS Reservations are AVAILABLE to confirm/edit
  • Vessel and rail work continues
  • All port administrative offices – CLOSED

Tuesday, July 7

  •  Standard port operations – observing posted gate and TRS hours at all POV terminals and facilities
  • All port administrative offices – OPEN
