New Container Stacks – New Traffic Pattern – NIT South

September 4, 2019

As expansion and terminal optimization work continues across the port, we are pleased to announce the latest milestone at Norfolk International Terminals (NIT):

  • As of Thursday, Sept. 5, at the far end of NIT South, stacks 4 and 5 will open to container transactions
    • Stack 6 is also scheduled to open within the next 3-5 business days
  • In the photo below, stacks 1, 2 and 3 (closest to the container berth) opened to truck transactions in August
    • Stacks 4, 5 and 6 (furthest from the berth) are now coming online

TRUCK TRAFFIC PATTERN:

  • Please note the green (inbound) and gold (outbound) directional arrows – to be followed by all over-the-road trucks
  • It is important that trucks exiting the container stacks follow the gold arrow pattern
    • The Port Police will actively enforce the new traffic pattern (TSIP implications)
    • Trucks making an immediate left out of the stacks, against the inbound flow, are out of compliance, posing a danger to other drivers

Thank you for your flexibility and for your business.
