Hampton Roads Marine Firefighting School

Prospective Hampton Roads Marine Firefighting School Attendees,

The Port of Virginia, USCG Sector Hampton Roads and Virginia Maritime Association are pleased to announce the 26th Annual Robert E. Rumens Hampton Roads Marine Firefighting School will be conducted on May 8-13, 2017 in Norfolk, VA. Our course is NFPA 1005 Pro-Board certified for those attendees who meet the criteria.

We are planning to provide a very experienced staff to help educate responders in the complexity of the maritime environment. The instructors have extensive backgrounds in maritime operations. Personnel from the USCG, Northeast, Delaware Bay area, and the Port of Virginia are looking forward to providing the information and skills necessary to respond to a maritime emergency.

This course has drawn maritime responders from across the country and around the globe over the past 25 years and our planning team is busy in preparing for 2017. In order to help meet our objectives for 2017, the following new processes will be implemented:

  • Course Certificate: Due to the prerequisites required to meet the NFPA 1005 through the Virginia Department of Fire Programs (VDFP), all Out-of-State and International attendees will be issued a Certificate of Attendance. It will then be the responsibility of the attendee to provide the required documentation to the VDFP to receive a Certificate of Completion and Pro-Board Certification.
  • Registration: All registration fees must be paid in full prior to attendance. This will help us meet our financial obligations within a timely manner.
  • Number of Attendees per Agency: The attendance to the marine firefighting school will be limited to 100 attendees. To help meet the needs of our marine firefighting community, a limit of 10 attendees per agency will be implemented.

The formal registration announcement and additional information will be distributed on February 1, 2017. Included in the announcement will be a link to conduct online registration and payment. This link will go live on February 1, 2017.
