This course is designed to familiarize land-based firefighters, as well as maritime personnel, on procedures necessary to handle various marine incidents within a port, or on open waterways. This course meets NFPA 1005 standards and is Pro-Board certified.

PREREQUISITES
This course will be managed by utilizing the Incident Command System. All participants must be familiar with the ICS System.

Students should be in good physical condition. The course will require participating in live firefighting evolutions, on-site tours of large ocean-going vessels, climbing steep ladders and gangways, working in enclosed spaces and participating in a live exercise while underway on a vessel in open water.

Most evolutions will require full turnout gear, SCBA, and Type III PFD.

  • Course Fees: Virginia in-state students — $460.00 | Out of state students — $560.00

All registration fees must be paid in full prior to attendance. This will help us meet our financial obligations within a timely manner (Includes Student Manual, IFSTA Textbook, and lunch each day).

Certification: All participates will receive a Certificate of Attendance for successful completion of the program. Those students wishing to receive a Certification to the NFPA – 1005 Standard will need to provide certification to the NFPA – 1001 Firefighter II level that has been issued from an accredited entity with either a Pro-Board or IFSAC seal attached and have successfully passed both the written and skills testing while attending the program. The individual will need to submit the completed Pro-Board application and a copy of their certificate to VDFP to receive a NFPA – 1005 certification from Pro-Board.

Number of Attendees per Agency: The attendance to the marine firefighting school will be limited to 100 attendees. To help meet the needs of our marine firefighting community, a limit of 10 attendees per agency will be implemented.
