Truck Queuing Policies – Virginia International Gateway

May 16, 2019

Trucking Partners,

On April 8, 2019, we published “CLARIFICATION: Truck Reservation System (TRS) Grace Period Policies.”

Truck queuing remains an issue at Virginia International Gateway (VIG).  As you know, the transition from mandatory to non-mandatory TRS reservations occurs at 1400 hours, Monday – Friday.  Between 1330 – 1400 hours each day, large numbers of trucks are queuing on the Route 164/Western Freeway off-ramps, eastbound and westbound, as well as in the parking lot of the Driver Assistance building (see the image below).  This behavior is contrary to approved queuing policies and creates potential safety risks for motor carriers, port partners and colleagues, and the driving public.

As indicated in the image below, Renfrow Road/Lollipop Lane is designated as the exclusive truck queuing area for VIG.

We request the assistance of our trucking partners in educating individual drivers regarding this policy.  If the truck queuing problem persists, police enforcement may be brought to bear.

Thank you for your flexibility and support and thank you for your business.
