VIG, NIT and PPCY Terminal Operations Updates: Friday, Oct. 12, 1330 Hours

October 12, 2018

The high winds associated with the remnants of Hurricane Michael are creating a challenging operating environment at Virginia International Gateway (VIG) and Norfolk International Terminals (NIT).  With safety as our primary goal, please be advised of the following:

At VIG:

  • Multiple containers are blown over inside the stacks
  • Stacks 4, 11, 12, 13, 14 are OUT OF SERVICE
  • Stacks 5, 6, 15 and 24 are operating with limited capacity
  • All other stacks are fully operational
  • Effective immediately, all standard empties routed to VIG, by matrix, must be returned to the PPCY for the remainder of today, Oct. 12

At NIT:

  • Multiple containers are blown over inside the stacks/rows across the terminal
  • Both NIT North and NIT South are impacted
    • Some TRS reservations will be CANCELLED
  • Straddle carriers are operating, but may be impacted (slowed) by ongoing wind gusts

At PPCY:

  • OPEN and operating, per standard procedures

Thank you for your patience and understanding.  We will continue to communicate with you as service restoration efforts unfold across the port.
