The Port of Virginia learned this afternoon that both individuals involved in the accident earlier this week at Norfolk International Terminals’ South Berth have passed away. We are deeply saddened by this news and our condolences go out to their families, friends and colleagues during this incredibly difficult time.
We recognize the tremendous impact of this loss on their loved ones, their employer McLean Contracting and all those affected by this incident. We remain focused on supporting them through this period.
We will continue collaborating closely with McLean and the appropriate investigating authorities as they work to understand what occurred.

On September 23, two contractors performing maintenance and repair work at Norfolk International Terminals were involved in an accident at the South Berth. Emergency response teams were immediately notified and both individuals were transported to local hospitals.
We are grateful to everyone who responded so quickly: police officers, members of the International Longshoremen’s Association, and local first responders. We are in close communication with the contractors’ employer, McLean Contracting Co., and we will provide additional information as it becomes available.
Out of respect for the individuals and their families, we cannot share additional information about their conditions at this time. Our thoughts are with the individuals involved and their families and colleagues.
